I wrote last year about how the BcS stinks and offered a system that I think will work. And I am planning on applying my proposed system to this season, hopefully I will post that on Tuesday.
But I wanted to post a separate blog to talk about once AGAIN the BcS has screwed over Boise State. Fortunately I get to write about two bowl match ups that makes no sense at the same time.
Boise State finished the season at 11-1. Their only loss was to TCU due to the Boise kicker missing a last second field goal. That particular game was one of the best games I saw all season, In my opinion Boise should have won it. After that loss the BcS voters, in their infinite, "wisdom" down to #11.
Somehow Boise moved up to #8 for the final poll of the season. In my opinion the should have finished in top 5 and maybe should have been # 3. Personally I would have liked to see Boise vs Alabama or Oklahoma St.But their final ranking is not what bothers me.
I have been thinking the BcS bowls were supposed to be for the best teams in the country. But there are two BcS bowl games that have teams that shouldn't be in them. I know that the Orange bowl has an agreement with the ACC to have a team in their bowl game but #12 Clemson doesn't deserve to be in a BcS bowl game. Heck, two of their three losses were against other ACC teams and most of their wins were not that impressive (more on that in a moment).
Clemson's opponent in the Orange Bowlis #23 West Virginia. There is no way the Mountaineers should be in this game. NO WAY. Their schedule is not that strong and they didn't have any memorable wins. Boise State should have been considered for this game but it's not the one they should have been put in.
I think that with the bowl's as chosen this year Boise should have been put into the Sugar Bowl against Michigan. I think that particular match up could have been maybe the best bowl game this year. I can't help but wonder if the BcS committee didn't want to put Boise against Michigan because they feared it would upstage their "Championship" game.
Instead of putting Boise St. in the Sugar Bowl the BcS committee put #17 Virginia Tech into this game which is laughable at best and just down right irresponsible in my opinion. Va Tech is not a bad team but they are not that good either. I understand Clemson getting into the Orange Bowl because the won the ACC but Clemson badly beat Virginia Tech badly in two separate games (3-23 and 10-38).
I have no idea how the BcS can justify putting Virginia Tech into the particular game. To me BcS has lost more credibility than ever. It's just a shame that they disrespect Boise as much as they do.
